Create multiple teams with Count Off
Use Count Off to create sub-teams to encourage open communication, creativity, idea generation and independent thinking. It works with any group size and only takes 1 to 3 minutes.
Ask the group to “count off” from one to x number of groups you want to have. Count the total number of people you have (N), and identify the number of people you want in each group (P).
One person starts by saying the number 1, the person next to them says 2 and so on until reaching the desired number of groups (P). Then the next person resets the count from 1.
As they are listed, people with the same numerical value will gather in one part of the room. Point to the area you want all the “ones” to meet, “twos” to meet, etc.
Ready! You already have the sub-teams formed to start the activity
Remember, sometimes, it is preferable to break the larger team into sub-teams or break out groups to allow for:
- Relationships to form.
- More introverted team members to contribute.
- An infusion of energy by physically moving them around
- Teammates to get out of a rut of sitting next to the same people
