Idea Spectrum Exercise
Idea spectrum exercise helps teams explore new perspectives while understanding the balance between practicality and creativity. It’s a fun and collaborative way to get everyone thinking and bouncing ideas off each other—perfect for brainstorming sessions when you need to mix things up.
Ready to see where your team’s creativity lies? In this activity, everyone writes down ideas related to a topic or challenge on sticky notes. Then, the team arranges them in order from conventional to wild, out-of-the-box thinking.
Give everyone sticky notes, a pencil, and choose a challenging topic to brainstorm. Announce to all participants that you will give them a few minutes to individually write down as many ideas as possible on the sticky notes.
Explain that they have to write one idea per note. When time is up, stick the notes on a whiteboard and organize them in order, from conventional to innovative thinking.
Moment of Reflection
- What was the first thought or idea that came to your mind when you heard the challenge?
- What feelings did you experience during the activity? Why?
- How easy or difficult was the process of creating many ideas?
- At what other time or places in our lives do we need to think of several ideas or different alternatives to overcome a problem?
