Flip It Over Activity
The objective the Flip It Over is to help people working in groups acquire problem-solving, creativity, and strong communication skills. It forces the group to think of creative ways to work as a team and solve the problem without getting off the canvas.
For this practical activity you will only need a tarp or a piece of clothing the size of a tablecloth. It is ideal for groups of 10 people, if your group is larger form teams of 8 to 10 people.
You ask a group of 8 -10 people to huddle around and stand on top of a tarp. The challenge is that they have to flip the tarp, standing on the other side of the cloth.
The only condition is that the players’ feet do not touch the ground, they can only rest on the canvas.
The expected outcome is that the group learns that, in challenging situations, it must include all group members and hold everyone accountable for achieving the ultimate goal of the task.
Moment of Reflection
- What was the most complicated part of the challenge? Why?
- What was the most successful strategy that the group found to achieve the objective?
- How do you rate the communication that developed in the group during the game?
- Did leaders appear? Did these leaders listen to all the ideas and organize the group’s actions?
- Have you ever felt like giving up? What motivated you to continue?
- Does the group usually go through challenges that require the active participation of everyone? What are the results they obtain, can they be improved?
