Yin and Yang Exercise

If you are looking for ways to improve workplace communication and develop team spirit, consider ‘Yin and Yang’ as a possible exercise.

First, ask team members to think of a couple of common items; for example, macaroni and cheese, yin and yang, or jacket and tie. Have them write the name of each item on separate sheets of paper.

Tape a piece of paper to each participant’s back, making sure no one gets their own suggestions. To deduce what is written there and find their other half, the participants mingle and ask each other yes or no questions.

The goal is for each person to discover the word that is written on the paper taped to their back and find their other half. You can only use the resource of closed questions and trust the response of your colleagues.

Participants must be creative and think of questions that help and guide them to discover the word.

Of all the fun team building activities on the list, this one probably requires the least amount of prep time. Therefore, it is especially suitable for team leaders who are short on time.

Workplace communication is not some mythical abstract concept – it’s a tangible goal for any forward-thinking business and should be among a company’s top priorities. If we look at some of the most successful organisations, they tend to have a values-based culture that prioritises employee happiness and wellbeing.

Why is team communication important in the workplace? Team communication is one of the most fundamental aspects of collaboration.
