War In The Galaxy
In The Galaxy is a fun-filled active game, perfect for breaking the ice and energizing the people in your group.
Hand a balloon to each person in your group, asking them to inflate it as large as possible. They then have to write their names on it to identify each person’s balloon.
It is necessary to indicate to your group a series of boundaries within which play may occur. Identify one or more boundaries in your playing space, indicating that all play occurs within this area.
To start, ask your group to gently tap their balloons with an open palm, as they move about the designated area. When ready, everyone is entitled to strike their own balloon forcefully so that it may hit or knock the balloon belonging to another person.
At no time may a person hold or grasp their balloon to prevent it from being hit.
Announce that each person should aim to keep their balloon in the playing space for as long as possible.
Whenever someone’s balloon is knocked out of the playing space, that person is eliminated. Play continues until one final person remains inside the playing space.
Play two or more rounds before inviting them to reflect on the activity.
Moment of Reflection
- How easy was it for you to control your balloon?
- How did it feel to forcefully strike your balloon into the path of another? How did it feel to have your balloon struck by another person’s balloon, possibly out of bounds?
- How did you feel when another balloon hit your balloon and you were eliminated?
- Did you have any strategies to stay in the game as long as possible? Did they work?
- In our life, we think we have something under control and suddenly another person makes us lose that control? How does it make us feel?
