The Candy Game

Candy Game is a playful activity and an interactive greeting game to facilitate the first recognition between people in a group in formation.

Distribute five candies (it can be more or less depending on the number of participants) to each person in your group and ask them not to eat them yet. Announce that they will soon be participating in a series of short conversations with as many people in the group as possible.

Invite your group to mix and mingle with each other, engaging in a short conversation as often as possible. Encourage them to introduce themselves, exchange pleasantries and engage in the fine art of conversation.

But, this is not just any form of conversation – explain that each person’s goal is to cause the other person to say the word “YES.” Every time your partner utters this pleasantly uncomplicated word, you gain a candy from their pile.

This seems so easy to do, but I swear the simple task of not saying “YES” is so hard.

Allow the playful interaction to continue for 5 minutes so that people can get to know each other. Conclude the activity by eating and sharing the candy collected, and allow everyone to introduce themselves by name and say how many candy they were able to collect.
