Group DIY Workshop
The purpose of the DIY Workshop is to promote learning, creativity, and team bonding through a shared hands-on experience. You only need the materials and tools necessary for the chosen craft, for example: paint, canvas or clay.
Choose a craft or project for the team to work on together, such as pottery or painting. Provide a brief tutorial or have an instructor guide the workshop.
Participants work individually or in small groups to create their project. At the end, participants can share their creations with the group, discussing what they learned and experienced.
The result is that people gain new skills and a sense of achievement, fostering creativity and strengthening bonds through shared learning experiences.
Creating something out of nothing can be a powerful self-reflection exercise that can assist your group to be present to what they are feeling. Help your group to explore what they are creating and/or interpreting in their creations to help them identify, explore and navigate a range of emotions such as compassion and empathy, frustration, conflict, joy and sorrow.
Moment of Reflection
To conclude the activity, allow a space for reflection for people to put their lived experience into words.
- Would this task have been easier or more difficult if you were alone? Did learning in a group make your task easier?
- What is the advantage of being part of a team that is in the learning process? Are there any disadvantages?
- What feelings did you experience during the task? What did you enjoy the most? What surprised you and why?
