Gifts and Hooks Activity
In Gifts and Hooks, the facilitator explains that team members bring gifts to the table. But they also need hooks — things the person needs in order to remain fully engaged.
The gifts are their skills, knowledge, capabilities or characteristics that help the team get work done. The hooks are what they need to stay fully engaged and actively involved as the group continues its work.
Team members write down both their gifts and their hooks, then the facilitator sets up a round-robin to discuss these.
The team can further extend the exercise by reflecting on the kind of answers they came up with. What does this tell us about our team? What do we need to keep in mind as we move forward?
This is fantastic team building activity because helps keep things transparent, since it shows an honest outlook and highlights each participant’s strengths and style.
This will help the team get to know one another, and provide additional value for the own participant’s learning as well! When a group understands what the strengths and quirks are of their team members, and themselves, they are better able to communicate and understand their roles.
