Create A Compliment Circle

A Compliment Circle is an ideal activity to bring the team together and strengthen relationships through praise and mutual recognition. What better way to boost team morale than by giving compliments!

Also, stressful workplace conditions can lead to tension between your employees. You need to keep everyone on the same team, especially if you have a small-sized workforce.

Gather people together and have everyone sit in a circle. While gathered in a circle, team members acknowledge the effort made by colleagues.

Ask your team to write a few words of gratitude for each of their colleagues. Make sure they understand the instructions that they must write words for ALL of their colleagues.

It can be anything from thanks for being a listening ear, to efficiency in deliverables. You might say: “I love the way Natalie is always willing to help when I’m stuck,” or “Jason made me feel really welcome when I joined the team, and I settled in so quickly thanks to his support.”

Important: Do not write compliments related to physical aspects.

Once everyone has written down their compliments, let each person read what they have written. This activity will create an environment of mutual respect and appreciation for each other. People will feel more connected and valued when they receive compliments from their peers.

Moment of Reflection
  • Was it difficult to express recognition to other people? Why was it difficult or why was it not difficult?
  • Do you think that what you praise in others you can develop yourself?
  • How do you think this exercise helps the group and why?
  • Do you feel that the group has many skills to face any challenge?
  • Did the exercise inspire people to have more confidence in the group and their peers?
